Description

The Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round is the commercial version of the pistol that won the U.S. Army Modular Handgun System contract, built here in the reduced-capacity configuration for states that cap magazines. You get the full duty gun: a 4.7-inch barrel, a coyote PVD slide, an ambidextrous manual safety and three steel magazines. MAG5 Firearms lists it under UPC 798681730186 at 699.99 dollars.

The Army Pistol, Unchanged

SIG did not build a civilian lookalike. The Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round carries the same coyote PVD slide, the same coyote-tan carry-length polymer grip module and the same black controls specified by the Army. The slide is stainless steel under that finish, the frame rail is the serialized chassis common to the whole P320 family, and the accessory rail is M1913 so any duty light mounts without an adapter.

Sights are a SIGLITE night sight up front and a removable plate at the rear that carries the rear night sight. Pull that plate and the optics cut underneath accepts a ROMEO-M17 or a DeltaPoint Pro footprint optic mounted directly to the slide. That is what optics ready P320 M17 means in practice: no milling, no gunsmith, one plate swap on the Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round.

Controls are the reason many buyers choose the M17 over a plain P320. The manual safety is ambidextrous, the slide catch is shielded and ambidextrous, and the magazine release reverses for left-handed shooters. At 30.5 ounces with an 8-inch overall length and a 6.6-inch sight radius, the Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round handles like the full-size service pistol it is.

Why the 10-Round Version Exists

This is an M17 MA compliant pistol. Massachusetts and several other states cap magazine capacity at ten rounds, and SIG builds this variant so dealers in those states can sell the gun legally. The Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round ships with three ten-round steel magazines rather than the 17 and 21-round magazines that come with the standard gun.

Nothing else is reduced. The barrel, slide, trigger group, sights and grip module are identical to the full-capacity M17. If you live where standard magazines are legal, 17 and 21-round P320 full-size magazines drop straight in, so the Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round is not permanently limited by what ships in the box. Pennsylvania buyers in particular should know that.

The grip module is the other piece of flexibility. Because the serialized chassis lifts out, you can move the Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round into any P320 full-size module, in small, medium or large, without another background check. Few duty pistols let you resize the grip for a different shooter in five minutes.

Honest Caveats Before You Buy

Capacity first. If you do not live in a restricted state you are paying full price for three magazines you will probably replace. Factor the cost of a pair of 21-round coyote M17 magazines into your budget rather than treating the Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round as a finished purchase.

Weight and size next. At 30.5 ounces and 8 inches long this is a duty and home-defence pistol, not a concealed-carry gun. People who buy the Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round for daily carry usually end up with an M18 or a P365 instead. Be honest with yourself about how it will actually be worn.

On the platform: SIG ran a Voluntary Upgrade Program for the P320 in 2017 addressing drop safety, and current production including the M17 ships with that updated trigger group. The M17 was drop-tested to military standards from the start. If you are buying used rather than new, confirm the upgrade status with the seller.

Two smaller points. The optics cut takes the ROMEO-M17 and DeltaPoint Pro footprint, so an RMR-footprint optic needs an adapter plate and will sit higher, which changes your co-witness. And coyote PVD wears at the muzzle and slide corners with holster use. That is cosmetic rather than functional, but it is worth knowing before your first Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round shows holster rash.

Who it suits: shooters who want the actual service pistol rather than a commercial approximation, buyers in capacity-restricted states who need a legal full-size duty gun, and anyone building toward a red dot who wants an optics ready P320 M17 without paying a gunsmith. The Sig Sauer M17 9mm 10 Round is a lot of pistol for the money. MAG5 Firearms is a family-owned FFL in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, with transfers, cleaning and gunsmithing in-house by appointment.
