Description
The Fiocchi 12WRNO8 White Rino 12ga shell, item 12WRNO8, is a 12 gauge, 2-3/4 inch target load carrying 1 1/8 oz of #8 lead shot at a rated 1250 fps. White Rino is one of Fiocchi’s premium competition lines, aimed at shooters on the trap and sporting circuit.
Fiocchi 12WRNO8 White Rino 12ga Overview
The #8 White Rino pairs Fiocchi’s premium competition components with the denser pattern of smaller shot. A full 1 1/8 ounce charge moving at about 1,250 fps gives shooters a fast, forgiving shell for 16-yard trap, the first target of doubles and close-to-middle sporting presentations. Fiocchi builds White Rino with quality hulls, wads and harder shot to keep patterns tight and even, and many shooters appreciate how smooth it feels for a full-weight fast load. It is a natural partner to the #7.5 version for longer targets.
Shot Size and Pattern
Number 8 shot is slightly smaller than 7.5, so the same payload carries more pellets. That denser pattern is an advantage on close and mid-range targets such as skeet, five-stand and 16-yard trap, though each pellet carries a little less energy at long range. Pattern your gun on paper at the distances you shoot most, and match your choke to the target: open chokes for close stations, tighter chokes for longer yardage.
Payload and Recoil
A 1 1/8 ounce payload is the traditional full 12 gauge target charge, and the heaviest allowed in most trap and sporting clays events. It gives a full, forgiving pattern, but it also produces the most recoil of the common target loads. At a rated 1250 fps this is a fast target load. The higher speed shortens the lead you need on crossing and quartering targets, while adding some recoil compared with slower shells of the same weight.
Shotgun Compatibility
Fire this shell only in 12 gauge shotguns with a chamber of 2-3/4 inches or longer. It runs in break-action and pump guns without concern, and gas-operated semi-autos cycle a full-weight fast load like this easily. Never place a shell in a gun of a different gauge; a smaller shell can slip into a larger barrel and cause a dangerous obstruction.
Practice and Competition
This is a target and competition load. It is well suited to trap singles, doubles and handicap, sporting clays and other clays competition. Many hunters also use similar lead loads on doves and other small upland birds, but check your state regulations for legal shot types, and remember that lead shot is prohibited for waterfowl.
Consistency and Value
Premium shells cost more than practice loads, so many shooters train with value ammunition and save White Rino for registered events. If you do, check that both loads shoot to the same point of impact. Buying a case from one lot for the season keeps the feel, sound and timing identical each time you step to the line.
Storage and Care
Store shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Heat and humidity can affect powder and primers over time, and crushed or split hulls should never be fired. Rotate older boxes forward so they get used first.
