BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot – Lightweight 2-3/4 in 1 oz 1175 fps Upland Load, 25 Rounds

Description

The BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot brings the Baschieri and Pellagri Heavy Dove and Quail recipe to the 20 gauge. Each 2-3/4 inch shell carries 1 ounce of #8 lead shot at 1,175 fps, which is a heavy payload for the gauge while keeping recoil comfortable. Each box holds 25 rounds.

Why the BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot Suits a 20 Gauge

Many upland hunters carry a 20 gauge because it is lighter and quicker to mount than a 12. The trade-off is a smaller payload, so choosing the right load matters. A full 1 oz 8 shot load gives the 20 gauge a dense pattern that punches above its weight on small birds.

The #8 shot size maximizes pellet count, which is ideal for quail, woodcock and doves that commit close. It is also a common choice for 20 gauge skeet, so the same box works for a few warm-up stations before a hunt.

At 1,175 fps, this is one of the more comfortable 20 gauge quail loads in the heavy-payload class. That makes it a good fit for smaller-framed shooters and youth hunters using properly fitted guns, as well as anyone walking long miles behind dogs.

Hunting With the BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot

Open chokes suit this load best. Improved cylinder or skeet lets the pattern spread quickly for close-flushing quail and woodcock, while light modified can help on doves passing at 25 to 30 yards.

Range is the main limitation. Small #8 pellets from a 20 gauge lose energy quickly past about 30 yards, so this is not the choice for pheasants or late-season, high-flying doves. For those, step up to a larger shot size or a 12 gauge.

This is a lead load. As with any 20 gauge dove ammo, check your state and local regulations, since some public lands and wildlife areas require non-toxic shot.

Who Should Choose the BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot

Upland hunters who prefer a lightweight 20 gauge and want dense patterns on quail, woodcock and early dove will find the BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot a well-balanced option. As light recoil bird shells go, it gives a lot of pattern for very little punishment.

Consider the limits. On larger or tougher birds, and at longer ranges, the small pellets and modest velocity give up energy. Many hunters keep a box of #7.5 or #6 on hand for those situations.

Store shells in a cool, dry place and keep boxes closed in the field so hulls stay dry on wet mornings.

Remember that 20 gauge shells should always be kept separate from 12 gauge ammunition. A 20 gauge shell can slip into a 12 gauge chamber and lodge in the barrel, creating a dangerous obstruction if a 12 gauge shell is then loaded and fired. Many hunters use a distinct shell pouch for each gauge.

Who it is for: 20 gauge upland hunters who want a comfortable 1 ounce #8 load for quail, woodcock and early-season dove. Follow all federal, state and local hunting regulations, including non-toxic shot rules, when using the BP Heavy Dove and Quail 20 GA 8 Shot.
