Description

The NSI Target Handicap 12ga 8 Shot shell is a 12 gauge, 2-3/4 inch load with 1 1/8 oz of #8 lead shot at a rated 1265 fps. It comes 25 rounds per box. NSI is the brand of Nobel Sport Italia, a European maker of shotshells and ammunition components.

NSI Target Handicap 12ga 8 Shot Overview

NSI Target Handicap is a faster trap load for shooters standing farther back. As you move back from the 16 yard line, targets are farther away when you break them, so a little extra speed helps the pattern get there with energy to spare. Shooters at long handicap yardage often step up to a load like this to keep breaks solid on targets that are already well out.

How Target Handicap Works

The shell pairs a full 1-1/8 ounce charge of lead target shot with a higher velocity than a standard trap load. A one-piece wad protects the shot and helps hold the pattern together, and Nobel Sport’s own primers and powders keep velocity consistent. Expect a bit more recoil than a standard trap load, which is the tradeoff for the extra speed.

Shot Size and Use

#8 is a classic target size with a dense pattern for trap and skeet. For handicap trap, #8 gives a dense pattern while the extra speed helps on targets broken farther out. Pattern your gun with this load, because every barrel and choke combination reacts a little differently.

Choke Notes

For trap, many shooters use modified or improved modified chokes, while skeet and close sporting targets call for skeet or improved cylinder. Pattern the load with your gun and adjust from there.

Chamber and Recoil

Fire this shell only in 12 gauge shotguns chambered for 2-3/4 inch shells or longer. Recoil is in line with other loads of this gauge and payload. A well-fitted gun, a good recoil pad and a consistent mount keep long days comfortable.

Rules and Regulations

Lead target loads are not legal where non-toxic shot is required, including migratory waterfowl hunting and some public ranges. Check your range and state rules before you shoot.

Choosing the Right Load

For most clay shooting, a 1 to 1-1/8 ounce load of #7-1/2, #8 or #9 lead covers trap, skeet and sporting clays. Lighter loads reduce recoil and fatigue, while faster loads help on longer or crossing targets. Many shooters keep two loads on hand, a softer one for practice and a faster one for competition, and switch as the course or the yardage demands.

Patterning Tips

Shoot a few shells at a large paper target from the distance you expect to shoot. Look at how evenly the pellets spread, check for gaps, and note where the center of the pattern lands compared with your point of aim. Trying more than one choke is the quickest way to find what works best with your gun.
