Description
The HEVI-Shot TSS 20ga 3in 7 Shot shell, item HS7007, is a 20 gauge, 3 inch turkey load with 1 1/2 oz of #7 tungsten super shot. It comes 5 rounds per box from HEVI-Shot, the Oregon maker known for dense, non-toxic hunting loads.
HEVI-Shot TSS 20ga 3in 7 Shot Overview
HEVI-18 TSS is HEVI-Shot’s top turkey load. Tungsten super shot is about 18 grams per cubic centimeter compared with roughly 11 for lead, so even small #7 or #9 pellets hit hard enough to anchor a gobbler at long range. Small pellets also mean a very high pellet count, which is why turkey hunters who switch to TSS often stretch their effective range or step down to a lighter gauge.
How HEVI-18 TSS Works
Tungsten super shot is far denser than lead, steel or bismuth. HEVI-Shot says these ultra-dense pellets give outstanding downrange lethality, and pairs them with heavy payloads. A friction-free spherical buffer fills the gaps between pellets for very tight patterns, a crimp-seal resin holds the buffer in the shell, and a thicker base wad, hotter primer and clean-burning propellant help it run reliably in semi-automatic shotguns in all weather.
Shot Size and Game
#7 tungsten super shot keeps enough energy for a clean head and neck shot on a turkey well past the range of lead #5 or #6. Aim for the head and neck, and keep shots within the distance where your pattern still holds plenty of pellets. Pattern your gun with this load before the season, because every barrel and choke combination reacts a little differently.
Choke and Barrel Notes
Tungsten super shot patterns very tightly and is hard, so use a choke tube made for TSS or rated for tungsten. Many hunters pattern several constrictions at 20, 30 and 40 yards to find the best one for their gun before the season.
Chamber and Recoil
Fire this shell only in 20 gauge shotguns chambered for 3 inch shells or longer. Never use it in a gun with a shorter chamber. A 1-1/2 ounce load is heavy for a 20 gauge, so expect noticeable recoil, though less than a 12 gauge turkey load.
Regulations
Turkey seasons, shot size limits and legal shooting hours vary by state, and some states restrict shot size or material for turkeys. Check your state regulations before you hunt, and always identify your target and what is beyond it before you shoot.
Patterning Tips
Before the season, shoot this load at a large paper target from the distance you expect to hunt. Count how many pellets land in a 30 inch circle and look for gaps that a bird could slip through. Try more than one choke if you can, and note where the center of the pattern lands compared with your point of aim. A few shells spent at the range build real confidence in the field.
About HEVI-Shot
HEVI-Shot is an American ammunition company based in Oregon that helped pioneer dense, non-toxic shot. Its lineup covers waterfowl, upland, turkey and predator loads in steel, bismuth, blended and tungsten-based shot, all built for hunters who need non-toxic shot that still performs.
Storage and Care
Store shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Shells used in the field often get wet; let them dry before storing, and discard any with swollen or damaged hulls.
