Description

Not every 6.5 Creedmoor barrel is a 1:8, and not every match runs to a thousand yards. The Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical is the load for the rifles and the distances the heavy bullets do not suit.

The Load for a Slower Twist Barrel
The specification that separates this load from the heavier Berger 6.5 offerings is twist rate. A 130 grain bullet stabilizes in 1:10 or faster, where the 144 and 153.5 grain loads need 1:8. That opens the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical to older 6.5 Creedmoor barrels, some factory hunting rifles, and any 260 Remington or 6.5×47 shooter working with a slower barrel.
It also gives up less than you would expect. At 2850 feet per second with a G7 ballistic coefficient of 0.287, this load stays ahead of the heavier bullets on velocity out to roughly 500 yards. Inside that distance the flatter trajectory is easier to shoot well, and the recoil impulse is noticeably softer over a long match string.
Where it falls behind is past 700 yards, and it falls behind steadily. A form factor of 0.928 is good but not exceptional, and against the 0.879 of the Long Range Hybrid the wind drift difference at 1000 yards is substantial. Know which end of that range your shooting actually lives in.
Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical Specifications
The Hybrid ogive is the same design principle used across the Berger line: tangent and secant geometry blended so the bullet keeps most of a secant nose efficiency while tolerating the seating depth variation inherent to factory ammunition. That tolerance is what lets a boxed round shoot close to a tuned handload.
Open tip match describes manufacture, not terminal behaviour. The hollow point exists because the jacket is drawn from the base forward, putting the most concentric material at the nose where it matters for accuracy. The Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical is not designed to expand and should not be used on game.
Maximum overall length is 2.825 inches, so it feeds from standard short-action and AICS magazines. Primers are large rifle and the cases are reloadable, which is worth something to anyone shooting a season of matches.

Honest Notes on This Load
Buy the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical if your barrel is 1:10 twist, or if your matches and steel sessions are decided inside 600 yards. It is also the gentler option over a long string, which matters more than shooters admit.
Step up to the 144 or 153.5 grain Long Range Hybrid if you have a 1:8 barrel and shoot past 800 yards. Beyond that distance the higher ballistic coefficient dominates and this load cannot keep up.
Skip it for hunting. This is a match bullet with no expansion design. The 135 grain Classic Hunter in the same cartridge is the correct choice for game.
For longer distance in the same cartridge: the 144gr Long Range Hybrid Target and the 153.5gr Long Range Hybrid Target, both needing a 1:8 barrel. Berger publishes complete 130gr ballistic data on its own site.
MAG5 Firearms stocks match ammunition across the 6.5 Creedmoor range. If you are unsure of your barrel twist rate, ask us before buying heavy bullets that may not stabilize.
