Federal Punch 45 Auto 230gr JHP ammunition is part of Federal Premium’s Punch personal defense line. It loads a 230 grain jacketed hollow point into the 45 Auto at a published muzzle velocity of about 890 feet per second, which works out to roughly 405 foot-pounds of energy by standard calculation. Each box holds 50 rounds, so you can practice with the same load you carry.

Built for Everyday Protection
Federal designed Punch to bring the lessons of its long history in defensive handgun ammunition to a load that is easy to buy and easy to shoot. For each caliber, the bullet is selected and built to suit how that cartridge performs in the situations a defensive shooter is most likely to face.
The jacketed hollow point is designed to expand on impact and penetrate to a useful depth, with balanced performance across different handguns and through common barriers such as clothing. That consistency matters, because many shooters carry one pistol and keep another at home.
Quality brass cases and sealed primers support reliable feeding and ignition. A sealed primer helps protect the powder charge from moisture, which is a real concern for rounds that ride in a holster or sit in a nightstand for months at a time.

Carry and Practice Tips
Use Federal Punch 45 Auto 230gr JHP ammo only in firearms chambered for 45 Auto.
Fire at least a few magazines of your carry load through your pistol to confirm reliable feeding before you depend on it.
Rotate carry ammunition periodically, and avoid repeatedly chambering the same round, which can push the bullet deeper into the case.
Check your local laws on carrying and transporting firearms and ammunition.
Federal Punch 45 Auto 230gr JHP ammo is a trusted choice for concealed carriers and home defenders who want a quality hollow point in a value-sized 50-round box.
A 50-round box makes it practical to train with your defensive load instead of only shooting cheaper range ammunition. Shooting the same rounds you carry helps you learn how they recoil and where they hit, so there are no surprises when it matters most.
The 45 Auto has been a defensive cartridge for more than a century, and the 230 grain bullet is its classic weight. It moves at a modest velocity, so recoil comes as more of a firm push than a sharp snap. That makes Federal Punch 45 Auto 230gr JHP ammo comfortable to shoot in full-size 1911s and modern polymer pistols alike.
When you pick a carry load, test it in your own pistol. Feed reliability, accuracy at realistic distances and how quickly you can get back on target all matter as much as the numbers on the box. Federal Punch 45 Auto 230gr JHP gives you enough rounds to run those checks and still keep a full supply for carry.
Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, and inspect carry rounds now and then for dents, corrosion or setback.
If you carry a compact 45, shorter barrels will produce somewhat lower velocities than the published figure. Shooting Federal Punch 45 Auto 230gr JHP rounds through your own pistol is the best way to see how it performs in the gun you actually carry.
