Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 22-250 Rem 50gr TSX FB is factory loaded ammunition for one of the fastest, flattest shooting varmint cartridges ever put in a production rifle. Barnes drives a solid copper Triple Shock X out of the muzzle at roughly 3830 fps, carrying about 1629 ft-lbs of energy. That is a lot of speed for a 22 centerfire, and it turns a coyote or a groundhog into a very short chase. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 22-250 Rem 50gr TSX FB Overview
The projectile is machined from solid copper with a deep hollow nose and no lead core at all. There is nothing to separate from a jacket, so the bullet drives straight rather than fragmenting the moment it touches hide. On impact the nose peels back into four sharp copper petals that open to roughly double the original diameter.
That behavior is what separates this load from a frangible varmint bullet. A blue tipped plastic bullet blows up on the surface, which is fine on prairie dogs and useless on a coyote quartering away. This one opens fast and still reaches the vitals from a bad angle.
50 Grain TSX Flat Base Performance
The 50 grain TSX flat base is the light, fast end of the 22 caliber Barnes lineup. Nothing in a 22-250 needs a boat tail, because almost every shot this cartridge takes happens well inside the distance where a boat tail starts to matter. A flat base is also easier to load concentrically and often shoots tighter in a factory chamber.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the Barnes VOR-TX 22-250 Rem 50gr TSX projectile. The grooves cut bore contact, which lowers pressure, reduces copper fouling and keeps a long solid copper bullet from over stressing a fast twist barrel.
Why Shooters Choose 22-250 Remington Varmint Ammo
The 22-250 has been the benchmark for flat shooting varmint work since the 1960s. Zero it at 200 yards and you can hold dead on well past 300 without thinking about drop. Recoil is trivial, so you can spot your own hits through the scope, which matters a great deal when you are calling coyotes and want a follow up shot.
Loaded with a copper bullet that holds together, this 22-250 Remington varmint ammo also covers the legal small deer and hog work that a frangible bullet cannot. In states where the 22-250 is a legal deer cartridge, a monolithic bullet is the only sensible way to use it.
Bear in mind that a bullet at 3830 fps is hard on a barrel. Expect throat erosion sooner than you would with a slower cartridge, and let the barrel cool between strings on a hot day.

Range Notes For This All Copper Hollow Point Bullet
An all copper hollow point bullet is longer than a lead core bullet of the same weight, so twist rate matters. Many older 22-250 rifles run a slow 1 in 14 twist, which stabilizes this 50 grain bullet fine, but if your rifle is marginal you will see it as oval holes in paper. Shoot a group before you rely on it.
Copper needs velocity to open. The Barnes VOR-TX 22-250 Rem 50gr TSX leaves so fast that expansion is never in question at normal varmint distances, and it stays above reliable expansion speed past 400 yards in most barrels.
Expect a different point of impact than whatever lead core load you shot last. Foul a clean barrel with a round or two, confirm your group, then leave the turrets alone. Buy two boxes from the same lot if you plan to practice, and store them cool and dry.
