Description
The A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack is five blue anodised aluminium 30-30 snap caps, part number 12329. Five is the number that matters here. A pair will let you check a chamber and dry fire; five will let you fill a lever gun tube magazine, work the loading gate, and cycle the action the way you actually do it in the field.

Centerfire Snap Caps Really Do Protect the Firing Pin
The A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack is worth being precise about here, because A-Zoom sells two different things. Their rimfire dummy rounds are inert machined cases with nothing to cushion a pin. Their centrefire snap caps, including these 30-30 snap caps, carry a dead soft polymer insert where the primer sits, and that insert absorbs the firing pin strike. A-Zoom rates them for thousands of dry fires before the face is beaten in enough to warrant replacing.
That matters for a lever action more than most people expect. Older Winchester 94s and Marlin 336s are not all rated for dry firing, and a 30-30 firing pin is not a part you want to go looking for. A cushioned cap turns dry practice from something you worry about into something you can do every evening.
The bodies in the A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack are CNC machined from solid aluminium to cartridge dimensions and hard anodised blue. They are the same length, rim diameter and profile as a loaded 30-30, which is why they feed and eject honestly rather than approximately.
A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack Specifications
Made by A-Zoom, part of Lyman Products, and machined in the United States. If you only need a pair for chamber checks and occasional dry fire, our 30-30 snap caps in the 2 pack cost less. The five pack is for people who want to run the gun.
Tube magazine work is the real argument for five. Loading a lever gun through a side gate is a learned skill, and it is awkward and slow until it is not. Five A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack rounds let you load, cycle, top off mid-string and unload by cycling them through, over and over, with nothing live in the room.
They also make the classic lever gun safety lesson concrete. Cycling every round out of a tube magazine and then checking the chamber is the only correct way to unload one of these rifles, and practising that with aluminium is how the habit sticks.

Getting Real Value Out of a Five Pack
Set a routine with the A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack and keep it short. Ten minutes of deliberate dry practice two or three times a week does more for a hunter than an occasional hour, and a lever gun rewards smooth cycling more than almost any other action type. Working the lever without disturbing the sight picture is a skill, and it is free to practise.
Inspect the primer faces on the A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack now and then. The polymer takes the strike, and after a few thousand cycles it will be visibly dished. When a face stops springing back, that cap has done its job. This is also why a five pack is sensible: you can retire one without losing the ability to run the gun.
Keep the A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack separated from live ammunition. Blue anodising is obvious in daylight and much less obvious in a dim garage or at the bottom of a bag. Give them their own tin, and count them in and out every session. If you also shoot a 45-70 lever gun, the 45-70 Government snap caps are the matching item, and keeping each calibre in its own container avoids the obvious mix-up.
One thing these are not is a chamber safety flag. A snap cap blocks the chamber but nobody across the range can see it. If your club requires a visible empty chamber indicator, you still need the bright plastic flag as well. The two solve different problems.
For anyone who owns a 30-30 and wants to actually get better with it over the winter, the A-Zoom 30-30 Winchester Value Pack is one of the least expensive ways to do it. Five rounds is the difference between checking that the gun works and practising how you run it. Ships from our licensed inventory in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
A note on the 30-30 itself. It is a rimmed cartridge, and rimmed cases stack in a tube magazine in a way that rewards attention: a rim caught behind another rim is the classic lever gun feeding problem. Practising with five identical aluminium rounds is how you learn what a smooth load feels like, and what a rim hang-up feels like, before it happens on a deer.
These are inexpensive enough that there is no reason for a lever gun owner not to have a set on the shelf next to the rifle.
