Description

Anschutz 1761 HB 17HMR: Precision Rimfire Performance

The Anschutz 1761 HB 17HMR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle built for shooters who demand match-grade accuracy in a compact, versatile package. Chambered in the flat-shooting 17HMR cartridge, this rifle pairs a heavy target-profile barrel with Anschutz’s renowned two-stage trigger system, giving shooters the control and consistency needed for pest control, small-game hunting, and disciplined range work. Every component reflects the German gunmaker’s decades of precision manufacturing experience, from the cold-hammer-forged barrel to the hand-finished walnut stock, resulting in a rifle that feels as good as it shoots.

Built on a classic sporting profile, this rifle features an 18-inch heavy barrel threaded 1/2×28 for suppressor or muzzle device compatibility, paired with a 1:9-inch twist rate optimized for 17HMR ammunition. The bolt-action design cycles smoothly and reliably, while the detachable 5-round magazine allows for quick reloads in the field or at the range. A bright blued metal finish complements the classic walnut stock, which is hand-checkered for a secure, confident grip. At just 6.2 pounds and 35.5 inches overall, the rifle balances naturally and carries easily during long days spent hunting or training.

Key Features and Benefits

The heavy target-profile barrel is the heart of this rifle’s accuracy potential. Its increased mass resists heat-induced stringing during extended range sessions, keeping shots consistent from the first round to the last. Combined with the 1:9-inch twist rate tuned specifically for 17HMR projectiles, the barrel stabilizes bullets efficiently across typical hunting and target distances. The threaded muzzle adds versatility, letting shooters mount a suppressor for reduced report or attach a compensator for faster follow-up shots. Whether shooting groups off a bench or making precise shots on varmints, the barrel’s rigidity and thermal stability translate directly into tighter, more repeatable accuracy.

Anschutz two-stage triggers are legendary among competitive and precision shooters, and this rifle carries that reputation forward. The first stage takes up slack smoothly before a light, crisp break at the second stage, minimizing disturbance to the rifle’s aim as the shot breaks. This level of trigger control helps shooters press the shot with confidence rather than fighting creep or excessive pull weight, which is especially valuable when precision matters most, such as when engaging small pests at extended range or shooting tight groups for practice. This makes the rifle equally suited to newer shooters and seasoned marksmen who expect exacting performance.

Beyond the mechanics, the classic walnut stock sets this rifle apart from polymer-stocked competitors. Hand-checkered panels at the grip and forend provide secure purchase in wet or gloved conditions, while the traditional profile offers a natural, comfortable cheek weld for consistent sight alignment shot after shot. The bright blued metal finish is applied to complement the wood’s grain, giving the rifle a timeless look that appeals to hunters and collectors alike. Anschutz’s attention to fit and finish means the stock-to-metal fit is tight and consistent, reducing the chance of point-of-impact shift from stock flex. This combination of classic materials and modern manufacturing tolerances gives shooters a rifle that performs as beautifully as it looks.
