Description
The Taylors Cattleman 45 Colt 7.5 Casehardened is a six-shot 1873 single action revolver chambered in .45 Colt with a 7.5 inch barrel, a color casehardened frame and walnut grips. Built by Uberti for Taylor’s and Company, it delivers authentic Old West styling with the quality cowboy action shooters and collectors expect.

Taylors Cattleman 45 Colt 7.5 Casehardened Overview
The 1873 single action is the most famous revolver of the American frontier, and Taylor’s and Company has spent decades offering faithful reproductions. This model is made by Uberti in Italy. The frame is color casehardened steel, while the round barrel, half-fluted cylinder, backstrap and trigger guard are blued steel. Grips are walnut in the classic Navy shape. Sights are a fixed blade front and the traditional notch rear in the frame. 5 inch barrel gives the classic Cavalry-length look and a long sight radius for accurate shooting. 7 lbs.
The .45 Colt Cartridge
The .45 Colt is the classic cartridge of the 1873 single action. Standard pressure lead loads are accurate, mild and ideal for cowboy action shooting and target work, while heavier standard loads remain effective for deer and hogs at close range. Avoid +P ammunition made for modern large-frame revolvers.
Classic 1873 Handling
The 1873 points naturally and its plow-handle grip rolls in the hand under recoil, which makes it pleasant to shoot. Loading through the side gate one round at a time is part of the charm, and the action has the distinctive four clicks when cocked.
Safe Single Action Shooting
Load single action revolvers with five rounds and an empty chamber under the hammer unless the design specifically allows otherwise, and learn the half-cock loading procedure before heading to the range. Use standard pressure ammunition suitable for single action revolvers.
Practice and Training
Regular practice builds confidence and safe handling. Start at close range, focus on sight alignment and a smooth trigger press, and work back as your groups tighten. Dry fire with snap caps at home to improve your trigger control between range trips.
Choosing Ammunition
Try several brands and bullet weights to see what feeds reliably and groups best in your handgun. Use quality full metal jacket loads for practice and proven hollow points for defense, and confirm reliable function with your defensive load before carrying it.
Care and Maintenance
Clean the barrel, slide or cylinder and frame after shooting, apply a light coat of quality lubricant to moving parts, and store the handgun unloaded in a locked case or safe away from children.
Safe Storage
Store handguns unloaded in a locked safe, lockbox or with a cable lock, and keep ammunition separate when children are in the home. Quick access safes keep a defensive handgun secure but available. Teach everyone in the household basic firearm safety rules.
Recommended Accessories
A quality holster, spare magazines, eye and ear protection and a cleaning kit round out any handgun purchase. For defensive use, add a weapon light and practice drawing safely from your holster with an unloaded gun before carrying.
