Tanfoglio Force 22L Tactical 22 LR – Reliable Rimfire Trainer

Description

The Tanfoglio Force 22L Tactical 22 LR (TF-FTAC-22AS) is a 10+1 rimfire pistol that mirrors the size and controls of the centerfire Force line. This UPC is the adjustable rear sight version; IFG also sells an optic-ready version (TF-FTAC-22OR), and the factory photos on this page show that optic-ready sibling.

Tanfoglio Force 22L Tactical 22 LR Overview

Tanfoglio says the Force 22 L was born as a trainer but turned out to be a weekend range favorite. It is built with the same methods and materials as the bigger Force pistols, so the grip, safety and DA/SA trigger feel familiar to anyone who owns a Tanfoglio or EAA Witness. The Tactical model has a threaded barrel with a thread protector, and IFG lists the weight at 25.2 ounces. The importer does not publish the barrel length for this model, so ask us if that detail matters.

Cheap Practice That Transfers

The best reason to own a rimfire twin of your carry or match gun is volume. A few hundred rounds of 22 LR cost less than a single box of some defensive 9mm, so you can practice grip, trigger control and safety manipulation far more often. The DA/SA trigger means you can also rehearse the double-action first shot.

Adjustable Sights

This version keeps a fully adjustable rear sight, so you can zero it for your favorite ammunition without an optic. American Rifleman, testing the related TB model, noted a black-on-black sight picture and suggested a contrasting front sight for faster pickup.

Suppressor Host

A threaded rimfire pistol is a popular suppressor host because 22 LR is quiet and cheap. A suppressor is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4, a tax stamp and state legality. Rimfire cans foul quickly, so clean the pistol and can regularly.

Ammunition Notes

Like most 22 pistols, it has preferences. Start with quality high-velocity round-nose 40 grain loads, and avoid bulk hollow points until you know the gun likes them. Keep the chamber clean and expect occasional rimfire duds, which are a cartridge issue rather than a pistol fault.

Who It Suits

New shooters benefit from the light recoil, and Tanfoglio owners get an inexpensive trainer with the same manual of arms. It is not a defensive pistol, and holsters for it are scarce. Magazine availability is limited, so buy spare magazines early.

State Laws and Ownership

Pennsylvania has no magazine capacity limit and no handgun roster, but the sale still runs through a licensed dealer with a background check. A 10-round magazine is legal in every state, though roster states may still block this import. Several states, including California, Massachusetts and Maryland, keep handgun rosters, and imported Tanfoglio models are rarely on them. Check your state and local rules, and confirm with your receiving FFL that it can transfer this pistol, before you order.
