Description
The Derya DY9 Island Kit is not the same pistol as the DY9Z with a different badge. It is a larger, heavier, ported gun built around an island barrel, and it arrives as a package rather than a bare firearm in a box.
The headline feature is the barrel. On the Derya DY9 Island Kit the barrel protrudes through the top of the slide and carries the front sight itself, with four gas ports cut into it. The slide gets lighter, the sight never moves relative to the bore, and the ports vent upward to hold the muzzle down.
What the Derya DY9 Island Kit actually is
- A striker fired 9mm Luger pistol holding 15+1, with 10 and 15 round magazines available.
- A 3.86 inch island barrel with four top mounted gas ports, carrying the front sight on the barrel rather than the slide.
- Black Melonite finish on the frame, the slide and the barrel.
- A direct RMR footprint optic mount with a plate supplied.
- A Truglo green rear sight paired with the barrel mounted front.
- An integrated magwell, the Derya Second Wind trigger, and a lighter slide to suit the ported barrel.

What the island barrel and the ports actually do
- A conventional pistol carries the front sight on the slide, which reciprocates. An island barrel carries it on the barrel, which is fixed to the frame at lockup.
- That means the sight and the bore never move relative to one another, which is the same reasoning behind a fixed sight on a rifle barrel.
- It also lets the slide be cut lighter, because it no longer has to carry a sight or cover the full barrel length.
- The four gas ports vent upward through the top of the barrel, and upward gas pushes the muzzle down. That is the entire mechanism.
- The costs are real: more muzzle flash in low light, more noise to the shooter, and a barrel that needs cleaning around the ports. The Derya DY9 Island Kit trades those for a flatter gun.

What is in the Derya DY9 Island Kit
Derya publishes the contents on its own site if you want the manufacturer view alongside ours: the DY9 Island page lists the same specification and package printed here.

- A Derya carry bag and a hard toolbox, rather than a cardboard box.
- Three magazines. Most pistols ship with one or two, and three is enough to actually run a course of fire.
- Four backstraps, which is one more than the DY9Z offers and a genuinely useful amount of adjustment.
- A spare guide rod, cleaning tools, the optic plate, the manual and a sling bag for the lot.
- For an optic, the Holosun HS507C X3 uses the RMR footprint this pistol is cut for. For practice, CCI Blazer Brass 115 grain 9mm is the clean burning default.
Magazines: the DY9 and the DY9Z are not the same
This matters and it is the single easiest mistake to make on our site. The DY9Z is a different pistol with different magazines. The DY9Z magazine we stock is not the part for the Derya DY9 Island Kit, and neither are the Glock 43X magazines that fit the DY9Z.
Three magazines ship with this kit, which covers most people. If you need more, buy them listed for the DY9 specifically rather than the DY9Z, and check the listing says DY9 rather than assuming the brand is enough.
Why the Derya DY9 Island Kit earns its place
- Four gas ports and a lighter slide make the Derya DY9 Island Kit noticeably flatter than an unported pistol of the same size.
- The barrel mounted front sight cannot shift relative to the bore, which is a genuine accuracy argument rather than a marketing one.
- A direct RMR mount with the plate supplied means no separate purchase before an optic can go on.
- The Derya DY9 Island Kit ships with three magazines and four backstraps, which is more content than most pistols at any price.
- The integrated magwell speeds up reloads without an aftermarket part hanging off the grip.
The Derya DY9 Island Kit suits the shooter who wants a ported competition style pistol without building one, and anyone who values getting everything in one purchase. Three magazines and four backstraps mean it is ready to shoot properly on day one.
The Derya DY9 Island Kit is not a deep concealment gun. At 1.81 pounds and nearly seven inches long it is a range and competition pistol first, and the ports make it loud and bright in low light. If concealed carry is the job, look at the DY9Z instead. Every firearm on this page ships to your chosen FFL for transfer and pickup.
Shooting a ported pistol
Ports work, and the effect is obvious the first time you shoot one next to an unported gun. The muzzle stays flatter, the sight returns faster, and split times drop for most people without any change in technique.
The trade-offs are equally obvious. Gas venting upward means a visible flash in front of your eyes in low light, and it is louder to the shooter than an unported barrel of the same length.
If the Derya DY9 Island Kit is going to be a range and competition gun, neither matters. If it were going to be a nightstand gun, both would.
Cleaning is the other difference. Carbon collects around the port openings and needs attention that a plain barrel does not. A nylon brush and a few extra minutes is the whole requirement.
Ammunition choice also matters more. Lighter and faster bullets generally produce more gas at the ports, so 115 grain loads tend to show the effect more than 147 grain subsonics do.
