Description
The Hornady 9mm 138gr DGH Backcountry load is built for shooters who want more from their 9mm Luger +P than typical factory ammunition delivers. Hornady loads a 138 grain DGH Dangerous Game Handgun bullet to a rated 1150 feet per second, producing about 405 foot-pounds of energy. Hornady Backcountry Defense ammunition is built for protection against large, dangerous animals in the field. The DGH bullet uses a tough construction that favors deep, straight-line penetration over rapid expansion, which is what matters when a bear or other large predator is the threat.

Buying ammunition by the box from the same production lot keeps velocity and point of impact consistent from one range trip to the next. Keep a record of the load you carry, check your ammunition for dents or loose bullets from time to time, and rotate your carry rounds so the ones in your firearm stay fresh. These simple habits help you get the full performance Hornady builds into every cartridge.
Before you trust any new load, fire enough rounds through your firearm to confirm it feeds, fires and ejects reliably and that the point of impact matches your sights. Full-power loads produce more recoil and muzzle blast than typical range ammo, so practice with the Hornady 9mm 138gr DGH Backcountry until you are comfortable with it, and store the rest in a cool, dry place in the original box.
The 9mm Luger was designed by Georg Luger in 1901 and is now the most popular handgun cartridge in the world, used by police agencies, militaries and private citizens. Its mild recoil, high magazine capacity and low cost make it ideal for high-volume practice, and it has become the most common chambering for pistol caliber carbines as well.
