Who Makes CCI Mini-Mag 22LR 36gr CPHP 300 Round

CCI is based in Lewiston, Idaho, and makes primers and rimfire ammunition that are used across the industry. The Mini-Mag was one of the first fast 22 LR loads CCI produced, and it remains one of its most popular products.

CCI says Mini-Mag ammunition uses clean-burning propellants to keep actions cleaner and sure-fire CCI priming for reliable ignition. In practice that means fewer duds and smoother cycling in semi-automatic rifles and pistols, which can be fussy with lower quality rimfire ammunition.

The 36 grain copper plated hollow point expands well at 22 LR velocities. Copper plating reduces lead fouling in the bore and helps the rounds feed smoothly from magazines.

The 300 round box is a practical size for a season of squirrel hunting or a summer of pest control around the farm. Buying CCI Mini-Mag 22LR 36gr CPHP 300 Round in this size also keeps you on a single lot for longer, which helps your rifle shoot to the same point of aim from one outing to the next.

Specifications and Performance

CCI lists CCI Mini-Mag 22LR 36gr CPHP 300 Round at 1,260 fps and 127 ft-lbs at the muzzle from a rifle length barrel. Handguns produce somewhat less velocity. That is typical for this class of rimfire load and well above standard velocity target loads.

Because it is a fast load, it will go supersonic from a rifle. If you shoot with a suppressor and want the quietest result, choose a subsonic or standard velocity load instead. For hunting and general use, though, the extra speed gives a flatter trajectory and more reliable expansion.

Rimfire accuracy varies more from rifle to rifle than centrefire accuracy. Some rifles group best with Mini-Mag, others prefer a different load. Shoot a few five-shot groups at 50 yards to see how your rifle performs before you commit to a large quantity.

Field Notes

For hunting, keep shots within about 50 to 75 yards and aim for head or heart and lung shots. A 22 LR hollow point is effective on squirrels, rabbits and similar game when placed well, but it is not suitable for larger animals.

Rimfire bullets can travel more than a mile. Always know what is behind your target, and be especially careful in farm country and near roads or buildings.

Many rimfire rifles and pistols are picky about ammunition. Mini-Mag is widely regarded as one of the most reliable loads, but try a box in your own firearm before buying in bulk.

Clean your rimfire rifle or pistol regularly, paying attention to the chamber and bolt face. Although Mini-Mag burns cleanly, any 22 LR will build up fouling over hundreds of rounds, and a clean chamber is the best cure for extraction problems.

Store ammunition cool and dry. Buyers must be at least 18 for rimfire rifle ammunition, and some states add extra rules for ammunition purchases.
