Description
Of all the ACOG reticles, the chevron is the one that divides opinion and then wins people over. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 RMR Green Chevron is Trijicon TA31-D-100548: a 4×32 BAC prism with a green chevron bullet drop reticle for .223, and a 3.25 MOA RMR Type 2 red dot mounted above it. Matte black, TA51 mount included.
The Chevron, and the Dot on Top
A chevron is a triangle with the apex uppermost. The tip is a precise aiming reference, fine enough to hold a small target at three hundred yards, and the widening body underneath gives your eye something substantial to catch when you are moving fast. That is the whole idea: a single shape that behaves like a fine reticle when you need precision and like a coarse one when you need speed. A dot is quicker and less precise; a crosshair is more precise and slower. The chevron sits between them on purpose.
Green is the daylight colour. It reads brighter to the human eye than red at the same output, so against foliage, dirt and open ground the green chevron BDC reticle is easier to pick up and hold. Red gives up some of that in exchange for preserving night adaptation. If most of your shooting happens in daylight, the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 RMR Green Chevron is the version to buy.
On top sits the piggyback red dot, and it is genuinely independent of everything below it. The prism has no battery at all, running on fibre optics by day and a tritium lamp by night. The RMR has its own cell and its own zero. Roll the rifle roughly thirty degrees inboard and the dot drops into your line of sight; the first afternoon it feels strange and after that it is automatic.
Trijicon ACOG 4×32 RMR Green Chevron Specifications
Under the reticle, this is the standard TA31 body: fixed 4x over a 32mm objective, 1.5 inches of eye relief, a 0.32 inch exit pupil, 36.8 feet of field of view at 100 yards across seven degrees, forged aluminium housing in matte black, rated to 66 feet of submersion. Holdover stadia below the chevron tip are drawn for 55 grain .223 and 5.56 from a 20 inch barrel.
The RMR Type 2 that comes with the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 RMR Green Chevron is the 3.25 MOA model, which is the size most people settle on for a rifle: fine enough to shoot accurately with, large enough to find in a hurry. Type 2 is the revision where Trijicon reworked the internals after early units struggled with slide mounted recoil, so on a rifle it is well within its comfort zone. Trijicon retail for the package is 2,611 dollars.

Honest Notes on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 RMR Green Chevron
Handle a chevron before you commit if you can. Some shooters find the apex vanishes against a busy background where a horseshoe or a donut would still be obvious, and reticle preference is genuinely personal rather than a matter of one being objectively better. If you have only ever used a dot, the chevron will feel unusual for a session or two.
Price is the standing objection to any of these packages. At retail this is two Trijicon optics and a bracket, costing more than most complete rifles. The parts bought separately come to roughly the same, so there is no premium for the box, but it is a serious amount of money. An offset mount and a cheaper micro dot delivers most of the close range benefit for a few hundred dollars if that is all you are after.
Height over bore on the dot is around three and a half inches, which is more than a rail mounted dot and enough to matter inside fifteen yards. Shoot it on paper at five, ten and twenty five before assuming you know where it lands. Weight is the other cost: the prism and mount are already a little over a pound, and the dot and bracket add more, all of it high and forward.
Everything true of any ACOG applies. Eye relief is 1.5 inches and the eye box is tight, so the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 RMR Green Chevron rewards a repeatable cheek weld and punishes a sloppy one, and where you position the mount on the rail matters more than on almost any other optic. Reticle brightness is automatic rather than adjustable, which is usually an advantage and occasionally reads dim if you are in a dark room looking out at bright daylight.
