Description
The Black Rain Spec15 300 Blackout is a 16 inch AR-15 rifle in 300 AAC Blackout from Black Rain Ordnance, built on the forged Spec15 receiver set in a black anodized finish. It is the straightforward, working-rifle model in the Black Rain lineup.

Black Rain Spec15 300 Blackout Overview
The Spec15 is the foundation of the Black Rain lineup: a no-frills AR-15 built on the same forged receivers as the Spec+ rifles, in plain black, at a lower price. It is a solid base for a first AR or a rifle you plan to upgrade over time.
Receivers and Finish
The upper and lower are Spec15 forged aluminum receivers, the strongest common way to make AR receivers. They wear a black hard coat anodized finish that is tough, low glare and matches nearly any optic or accessory you add.
Barrel and Caliber
The 16 inch 4150 chrome moly barrel is chambered in 300 AAC Blackout, a cartridge designed to fire .30 caliber bullets from an AR-15 with the standard bolt and magazines. Supersonic 110 to 125 grain loads hit harder than 5.56 inside 200 yards, and heavy subsonic loads are quiet behind a suppressor. Like most direct impingement rifles, it cycles supersonic ammunition best, and some subsonic loads may need a suppressor to run reliably.
Bolt Carrier and Parts
The Spec15 bolt carrier group, buffer and spring follow mil-spec dimensions, so spare parts are easy to find and replace. That makes the rifle simple to maintain and simple to upgrade with a new trigger or charging handle later.
Handguard, Trigger and Furniture
The 12 in. M-LOK hybrid handguard gives room for a light and a sling mount while keeping the front end light. The trigger is a mil-spec G.I. unit. It is not as crisp as a match trigger, but it is reliable and easy to upgrade. A G.I. style grip and an MFT Minimalist stock keep the rifle light and simple, though the Minimalist stock gives less cheek support than a full-size stock.
Adding Optics
The flat top upper takes a red dot, an LPVO or a magnified scope. Plan on adding an optic or backup iron sights before your first range trip.
Choosing Ammunition
Use supersonic 110 to 125 grain loads for practice and for deer-sized game at short range, and heavy 190 to 220 grain subsonic loads for suppressed shooting. Never load 300 Blackout into a 5.56 rifle. The round can chamber and fire in the wrong gun with dangerous results, so mark your 300 Blackout magazines clearly if you own both.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean and oil the bolt every few hundred rounds and check the gas key screws now and then. Most failures in a direct impingement rifle trace back to a dry bolt, so lubrication matters more than scrubbing.
State Laws
Some states limit AR-15 rifles or magazines over 10 rounds. Check your state and local laws before you order. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer this rifle at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
