Description
The Leupold Mark 5HD PR2-MIL FDE in 3.6-18×44 is item 185068. Five scopes in this shop are built on this exact chassis, and the turret on top is what decides whether you can use any of them.
Five Mark 5HD 3.6-18×44 scopes, sorted by turret
Three carry the M5C3 and click in 0.1 MIL: this one with a PR2-MIL reticle, item 185067 with Tremor 3, and item 173296 with a TMR. Two carry the M1C3 and click in 1/4 MOA: item 185066 with PR1-MOA and item 182944 with PR2-MOA.
So the first question is mils or minutes, and the turret answers it. The reticle then separates the scopes within each group. Finish separates them again: this one, 185066 and 185067 are Flat Dark Earth, while 173296 and 182944 are black.
Every one of the five shares the 35 mm tube, the 44 mm objective, first focal plane glass, a capped windage turret, 12.1 inches of length and 5.9 inches of mounting space. Rings cross freely between all five.
What the PR2-MIL gives you here
PR2-MIL is a holdover and wind grid graduated in milliradians, matched to turrets that click in 0.1 MIL. A correction you read off the glass is dialled without conversion, or held without touching the turret at all.
Being first focal plane, those references are true at every magnification. The Leupold Mark 5HD PR2-MIL FDE is not illuminated and carries no battery, so at 3.6x in failing light a grid reticle takes some finding.
Against the Tremor 3 version on the same chassis, PR2 is the less dense pattern. Against the TMR, it gives you considerably more reference. Choose the one you can read fastest under pressure rather than the one with the most lines.
Turrets, travel and parallax
Elevation is the M5C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is capped, which keeps it from moving in a drag bag. Clicks are 0.1 MIL on both axes.
Total elevation travel is 29 MIL, or 100 MOA, at 10.5 MIL per revolution with a 30 MIL dial travel limit. Windage gives 23 MIL, or 80 MOA, at 10 MIL per turn.
Precision side focus adjusts parallax down to a 50 yard minimum. No BDC dial is included and the scope is not Custom Dial System compatible, though the turret is published as custom BDC dial compatible.
Glass and dimensions
Magnification runs 3.6x to 18x behind a 44 mm objective. Eye relief is 3.5 inches at the bottom and 3.8 at the top. Field of view is 28.3 feet at 3.6x and 5.8 feet at 18x, per 100 yards.
The scope weighs 26 ounces and measures 12.1 inches, with 5.9 inches of mounting space split 1.7 front and 2 rear, on a 2.9 inch objective section with a 2.1 inch bell. That is compact for a Mark 5HD.
A weight figure worth knowing about
The Leupold Mark 5HD PR2-MIL FDE publishes 26 ounces. So do 185067, 173296 and 182944 on the same chassis. Item 185066 publishes 23 ounces, alone among the five, with every other figure matching, and 182944 shares its M1C3 turret while still weighing 26.
Four independent siblings at 26 ounces makes the 23 ounce figure on that one product almost certainly a manufacturer data error rather than a real three-ounce saving. We print each as published and say so on both pages.
Honest notes
The 35 mm main tube is the budget item nobody warns you about. It is not 30 mm and not 34. Rings and one-piece mounts exist in 35 mm but the market is narrower and prices are higher. Price the mount alongside the scope.
Flat Dark Earth appears only inside the manufacturer model name and its image filenames. There is no finish specification row, and no coating list or light transmission figure either, so we print none of them.
One structural gap: this page carries no Motion Sensor Technology row, where two of its siblings publish MST as No. On a non-illuminated scope that row means nothing anyway, but an absent row is not a stated answer.
Who this scope suits
Precision shooters working in mils who want a compact 35 mm scope, and anyone matching an FDE rifle. The Leupold Mark 5HD PR2-MIL FDE is designed, machined and assembled in the USA and guaranteed to perform for life.
Skip it if you think in MOA, if you need illumination, or if the denser Tremor 3 grid suits how you shoot.
