Description
The Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35×56 PR2-MOA is item 180292, the highest-magnification scope in this shop. It is a first focal plane optic on a 35 mm tube, and it is the one you buy when you need to see impacts, not just hit.
What the Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35×56 PR2-MOA is built for
Thirty-five power behind a 56 mm objective is a lot of magnification. At that level you are reading mirage, spotting your own splash and refining a hold on a small target. Below about 400 yards it is more magnification than the shot requires.
The PR2-MOA reticle is graduated in minutes and the M1C3 turret clicks in 1/4 MOA, so reticle and dial agree. A correction you read off the glass is a number you dial, with no conversion.
The Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35×56 PR2-MOA is a first focal plane scope. The subtensions scale with magnification, so a 3 MOA hold is 3 MOA at 12x and at 35x. It is not illuminated and there is no battery in it.
Turrets, parallax and travel
Elevation is the M1C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is capped, so it will not shift in a case. Elevation runs 25 MOA per revolution with a 71.5 MOA dial travel limit.
Total windage travel is 60 MOA, or 17 MIL, at 15 MOA per turn. Parallax is side focus with a 50 yard minimum. No BDC dial ships in the box and the scope is not Custom Dial System compatible.
Leupold publishes a Light Management System row for this model, Twilight Max HD. That row does not appear on the 5-25×56 scopes in the same family.
Three things the manufacturer page gets wrong, and what we did about them
First, the field of view. Leupold publishes 20.4 feet at the bottom of the range and 4.2 feet at the top for the Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35×56 PR2-MOA, and publishes exactly the same numbers for its 5-25×56 scopes, along with the same eye relief, length, mounting space and objective dimensions. A 7-35x cannot share a 5-25x field of view. We are printing the figures as published and telling you they cannot both be right.
Second, the weight. The specification table says 30 ounces. The description on the same page says this scope is only three ounces heavier than its 5-25×56 counterpart, and that counterpart is also published at 30 ounces. The page therefore claims 30 and 33 at once.
Third, the elevation travel. The row reads 100 MOA alongside 35 MIL and 349 cm at 100 metres. One hundred MOA is about 29.1 MIL, not 35. The MIL and centimetre figures belong to the 120 MOA 5-25×56 pages.
We could have quietly picked whichever number looked tidiest. We would rather you knew, and checked with Leupold before you plan a mount or a load around any of the three.
Honest notes beyond the data errors
The 35 mm main tube is the first thing to budget for. It is not 30 mm and not 34. Rings and one-piece mounts exist in 35 mm but the market is narrower and the prices are higher. Price the mount alongside the scope.
At a published 30 ounces and 15.7 inches, with a 6.2 inch objective section, this is a big optic. It belongs on a heavy-barrelled rifle shot from a bipod. No finish colour, coating list or light transmission figure is published, so we print none.
Who this scope suits
Benchrest and F-class shooters, extended-range hunters who spot their own impacts, and anyone working in MOA who wants the top end. The Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35×56 PR2-MOA is 100 percent waterproof and fogproof and guaranteed to perform for life.
Skip it if you shoot in MIL, if you need illumination, or if you will never use the magnification above 25x. The 5-25×56 versions cost less and weigh the same.
